I watched the video once more entitled “Did You Know” and it made me think about my own online audience, high school seniors, in some depth. They are certainly much more tech saavy than previous generations. And they do tend to communicate in a singularly different format than that presented in a typical classroom. Yet, I wonder how much of this new communication transfers into actual academic learning. Some would argue that it is mainly socializing (text messaging, IM, net surfing, ning groups), and some would argue that within that socializing a great deal of learning takes place. I envision an online Spanish course where such socializing would result in solid academic learning of the target language. I envision a classroom where students collaborate and communicate in an online and f2f hybrid environment that facilitates easy trasfer of tradational academic pedagogy to that of a 21at century model. That model would be built around technology and social groups. I am looking forward to the construction of this Moodle course in hopes that I can produce a viable and interesting class geared toward high school students.

Wow! That “Did You Know” video certainly makes you think of what we ever did befor all the technology pushed its way into our lives. My online audience is also high school age students and I think about how they would react to an online music course. Hopefully this type of learning environment will be something I could use and high school students will find interesting.

i would like you to dig a little deeper in this reflection post. use the assignment questions to guide you. where is your reference link for your assertion on learning as a social process?
what do you make of the SLN demographic information presented in this assignment for your review? what are your assumptions about your students? i am asking you to question your assumptions. what is the average age of users of ning? question your assumptions!
To invite readers into your blog and into interaction with you, end your post in a question.
would also like to hear about your experiences with the course itself.

additional suggestions:
-you need to categorize your posts.
-and be sure to submit your assignments by the due date. shoot for doing one post toward the end of each module. no points deducted for the late post this time. : )
