Second Thoughts

Posted by: brdemmin | June 20, 2009 | 2 Comments |

Well, we are barely into the course of learning how to create an online course, and already I am getting cold feet and having second thoughts.  The introductions presented by Dr. John Prush (Onondaga County Community College) and Mr. Rob Piorkowski(Cayuga County Community College) have already left me feeling a bit overwhelmed and wondering how I am going to consturct a fully online AP Spanish Language Course for my district.  I am now thinking that a hybrid model would, perhaps, work better.  Mainly my concerns revolve around design, but also the question covering content to the extent mandated by the College Board in order to prepare students for the national exam.  A great deal of emphasis is placed on reading, writing and listening to native speakers.  At this point I am unsure how to include sufficient material, assess for student comprehension, and formulate challenging projects.  Rather than have students upload audio clips using Audacity, I may instead have them open their own PodBean account and construct an online audio portfolio that I can access and evaluate.

a blended course may be an option. I believe that john prusch has developed an AP german course online, i will email him and ask him to contact you about his experiences.

I like that you are reflecting on the best tools to use for your objectives and would love a little more detail on each tool and why you think one may be a better fit for your objective than the other. I want to be able to “see” what you are thinking and feeling.

Also, don’t forget to self-assess each of your posts, just like in our course discussions. Review the rubric. it is slightly different than the discussion rubric.
